I wonder how the jury of non-technical people can decide such a case? With PhD and 20+ years of technical work I am having hard time understanding the case and arguments on both sides.

if SSO is copyrightable, then any API is more virulent than GPL ever was. we need to keep reminding ourselves that the purpose and justification for IP protection is the promotion of progress of science and engineering. the purpose is progress, not profit.
