Are you saying the smaller one is fake? That is quite believable but I would love to see where you foudn that it was proven. Is there a forum or something where people are discussing it?

This "bot" has been proven to be fake. There are revealing CGI artifacts.

 

I actually wished it was real. That would mean the fellow accomplished a tremendous amount of work in:
  • Creating a 3D representation of the ball via the two poorly mounted visible-light cameras, mounted too high to be useful.
  • Very strong robot arm, which doesn't appear to be affected by the weight and inertia of the paddle, especially when its arm is extended out. 
  • A very robust algorithm for returning the ball in various positions. Not an easy task!

So - fake!

I'd love to work on a project like this one, albeit a real one.
