Re: Post Moore's Law moonshot

Technology to sustain Moore's Law will be developed by Intel and TSMC and the like, so unless USA starts giving money to Intel, what will they do? Maybe invest in university research?

White House Report Warns of China's Threat to Chip Industry

Wow ...

someone in The U.S. noticed (?)

IBM warned of this Years ago.

No One in The U.S. said ... (???)

except the Harvard MBA's (Beancounters)

& therefore

U.S. Chamber of Commerce,

"Whatever" ...

Ship everything overseas - except U.S. HR and U.S. Management

& Tax Breaks for U.S. Companies that shipp everything overseas

China has a Business Plan

China "market shenanigans"

China's industrial policies, including collusion, theft of intellectual property, forcing or encouraging Chinese companies to buy only from domestic chip suppliers and forcing the transfer of technology in exchange for access to the Chinese market.

China Environemntal policies compared with other Countries/Manufacturing are ??

China Monetary manipulations and Dumping so other Countries and Manufacturing

- don't get the business (orders)

Like Present President John Neuffer, (& Previous Presidents)

president of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA):

"We are very supportive of China building its own semiconductor industry"

Yep ... and You have been for Decades...

Wish You would have been - half as supportive

regarding building U.S. Semiconductor Industry

And the "New U.S. Plan" is ... Innnovate more ...

so China collusion, theft of intellectual property, forcing or encouraging Chinese companies to buy only from domestic chip suppliers and forcing the transfer of technology in exchange for access to the Chinese market ... can continue !

How much of a threat can China be in chips if they've only just mastered ballpoint pens? http://shanghaiist.com/2017/01/11/made_in_china_ballpoint_pen.php

Where are some of the newer posts? Anyway, another point to bring up is consolidation, the trend toward fewer options. Innovation is obviously about adding extra options. Can the market support?

I was surprised the report did not call for a moonshoot for a post-CMOS component technology.

I suppose it would be politically seen as tech for tech's sake (i.e. a bad thing with a limted cponsituency) and there is no clear successor to Moore's law anyway, certainly nothing clearly promising another exponential growth curve.

Thoughts?

Yes, I agree. In free markets there are winners and losers and US semi management is losing.

Absolutely true. US semi wanted asian market share, tax shelters and cheap EE's. Fabs? Too expensive. Too technical. US semi management has expertise in making money not making chips.

What's the big Fuzz??  China doesn't want to sell any chips to US market!

It only wants 75% self sufficiency at its own market.

US market is owned by US companies!

Unless , US still want to be a hegemon, wants to own its own markets and others market.
