Please replace in Cold future ... the "M" in 100M Kelvin by 100m Kelvin. Although to run a chip at 100M Kelvin is also a noteworthy achievement. Perhaps even more so than 100m K.

@resistion IMHO ST/GF and others have demonstrated a rationale for FDSOI. Now mainly GF has to establish a real busienss for it starting this year. If it does TSMC et al could jump in if that business becomes significant.

Intel, TSMC do not offer FD-SOI, do we see a process gap coming up?

Good point, @Violoncelles

I did mention the STM chip is made in FD-SOI in our ISSCC preview where I first called it out. See http://www.eetimes.com/document.asp?doc_id=1330821&page_number=2

The key thing in the session was the new architectures, but indeed GF has sold me on the idea FD-SOI has a unqiue value proposition. I know it was an underdog for sometime, something Leti's CEO mentioned in an interview with me last summer. See http://www.eetimes.com/document.asp?doc_id=1330266

My colleagies Junko Yoshida and Peter Clarke were aware of the value of FD-SOI before I was and have written several stories on it.

I see on page 9 that the chip is made with an FD-SOI technology and this is not even mentionned in the text : this is a good piece of news for FD-SOI.
FD-SOI will become a credible alternative to FIN-FET when the use of this technology is not even mentionned.
