Check out this analysis on seeking alpha. Wow, 15 Billion dollars. Intel seems to mostly fail with acquisitions, but they keep trying.

Is this just desperation to buy into a market they once again were being left out of?

We are fully aware of Movidius. At the time of Intel's Movidius acquisition, automotive wasn't the primary target market for Movidius. We will see how that team will be "folded in" or not folded into the autmotive team headed up by Shashua at Mobileye. That's a good question.

Another noteworthy M&A not listed. In September, Intel acquired Movidius, which makes vision processing units.
